Recent Mission Projects @ New Song
Even before New Song Church had its first formal worship service in January 2009, we did our first mission project in December 2008. Listed below are some of our projects through December 2009.
December 2008 – New Song Church women, children and friends went to the Weinman Shelter for women and children who have suffered from domestic violence. We provided a Christmas party complete with games, goodies and the making of pillows for the children there. Also in December, we collected toys, clothing and much more to a needy family in O’Fallon, Missouri.
February 2009 – We painted a house for two young men with developmental disabilities who receive services from Caring Solutions.
March – We collected food in a cooperative effort with Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
April – Several of our New Song church folks put in a hard day’s work for Habitat for Humanity. Also in April, we walked in the Caring Solutions’ walkathon and helped with clean-up day at Holy Cross.
May – Games, snacks and music at Whispering Oaks facility for those with mental health issues. We played Pictionary, Name That Tune and cards with the residents. Lots of laughter and fun for all of us! We also helped with a garage sale for Burns Recovered Support Group—a group for which Rex later volunteered as a camp counselor.
June - Worked alongside staff and two Caring Solutions’ residents with developmental disabilities doing yard work and beautification of their home.
July – New Song Church children led us in an effort to collect school supplies for needy children. Delivered items to Neighborhood Houses and also to Ross School.
August – Furnished food and fellowship for the women and children of the Weinman Shelter at a Back-to-School Blast & BBQ---another wonderful and memorable experience. Also heard presentation on White Lotus mission in Cambodia and several purchased handmade cards to help that mission.
September – We distributed 500 bags to houses in the neighborhood around the church on one Saturday and collected the bags that had shoes returned in them the next Saturday. The shoes were sold to a local business and money raised to went to the Water for Kenya Shoe Project (www.shoeman.org)
October – Several New Song volunteers worked at Habitat’s Restore in St. Louis
November – New Song volunteers packaged meals for Food Outreach’s efforts for AIDS patients. Also, led by New Song children, we collected food in conjunction with Holy Cross’ food drive.
