God’s Story
In the beginning, God created the world. We don’t know exactly how, but we do know that God created the world. God may have created the world through an evolutionary process…but God created the world.
We may not know how God created us, but we do know why. According to scripture, we were created for God’s glory, and only for God’s glory. In other words, we were created to love God, and to love our neighbors.
Unfortunately, we have not historically been the most loyal or obedient people. Consequently, God sent many prophets through the years to rein us in, to return us to a closer relationship with God. True to our nature, we tended to ignore the prophets.
Ultimately God decided to visit us in the human form of Jesus. During God’s time of earth as a human, God taught lessons and performed miracles. Still, we failed to believe.
When Jesus knew that his time of earth was coming to an end, he called his disciples together for his Last Supper on earth. At the end of this meal, he asked his followers to always remember him when sharing bread and wine. At New Song, we have chosen to celebrate this meal whenever we gather for worship.
Following the Lord’s Supper, Jesus was arrested, humiliated and crucified. When he had breathed his last, his body was removed from the cross and placed into a borrowed tomb. Three days later Jesus returned to life, promising that we too could enjoy an eternal life.
God continues to live in the spirit of each and every one of us, providing us with strength and comfort in times of need and celebrating with us in times of joy.
Fortunately, God isn’t finished with us. God is still creating us, still speaking to us, still acting in our lives. The story of God continues!
