New Song’s Story
New Song started as a feeling, as a sense that God wanted us to start a new church with a focus upon mission, forgiveness, and grace. As this feeling intensified, a small group began to meet and to plan throughout the summer of 2008.
In early fall we met with Pastor Jim Schack of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Creve Coeur. After hearing our story, he approached the church council of Holy Cross to inquire about our use of their chapel on a weekly basis. In an amazing series of events, Holy Cross opened their hearts and their doors to our fledgling congregation.
Our first official worship service was conducted on Christmas Eve 2008, with 39 people in attendance. On that holy night, we focused upon the importance of living authentic Christian lives without forcing our beliefs onto others.
Our first weekly service was conducted on Saturday evening, January 10, 2009. During that first service we focused upon the blind beggar who needed to cast aside his garments before he could approach Jesus. We accepted our responsibility to forgive others, just as God has forgiven us. That evening, twelve individuals came forward to commit themselves to serving God through New Song Church.
We are not academics with all the answers. We are not holy persons with a corner on spirituality. We are simply a community of people who are trying to follow Christ and know that we have been forgiven. We love God with all our hearts, and we love all neighbors as ourselves.
