Rex’s Story
I am both humbled and honored to be the Pastor of New Song Church.
My story is not a pretty story…but it is my story. My story includes my struggles with mental illness, addiction and incarceration. Although my struggles temporarily removed me from the pastorate, I’m convinced that God has used my condition to prepare me for a more richly vibrant ministry. I’m fully aware that I’ve been an embarrassment to God and to the church; but God continues to present opportunities where I can make amends.
In these past two years, I have experienced more spiritual and theological growth than in my previous 30 years of ministry combined. I have experienced firsthand the need for confession, repentance and restitution. I have experienced the release borne of forgiveness, and the exhilaration borne of God’s rampant redemption. I have developed a deeper and more empathetic appreciation for the pain and alienation experienced by those with personal spiritual battles, and for those who struggle with mental illness or addiction.
How refreshing it is to worship a God who continues to offer new life; a God who uses those of us who are flawed or broken. How empowering it is to serve a God who makes us strongest in our broken places.
